MacGillycuddy Reeks

The Ring of Kerry is in essence a route around the magnificent Macgillycuddy reeks, Ireland’s finest mountain range. Amongst the reeks, you will find Ireland’s highest mountain Corran Tuathail at a height of 3,414 feet. There are a number of routes up to the peak but you are best advised to buy a specific guidebook or get some detailed local advice.

Other climbs in the area include “The Purple Mountain” and “Tomies” with splendid views of the Lakes of Killarney and the Gap of Dunloe, “Circuit of Com Cailli” (Hags Glen), and the most rewarding of all which is the “reeks ridge walk”. This takes in all the major peaks on this mountain range and is a good long day out but not for the beginner walker.

There are 3 main access points to the MacGillycuddy Reeks at Breanlee, Lisliebane, and Cronin's Yard.  Not everyone is aware that the mountains are privately owned and actively farmed. Dogs are not permitted in the Reeks.

Safety is very important if you are planning a climb.  You can view some guidelines for visitors to the MacGillyduddy Reeks Mountains at:  https://macgillycuddyreeks.ie/guidelines

Water Sports in Kerry

There are a wealth of opportunities to get wet in Kerry besides the obvious downpours (despite our moaning we love our rain - how else would Ireland stay so green?)

If you are looking to try kayaking, canoeing, surfing, sailing, stand up paddle boarding and of course swimming then the shores and lakes of Kerry offer some of the most pristine waters in Europe. You may hire equipment or join in group activities as you wish.

Please see below some Kayaking Tours from Killarney. More tours and services will be added in the near future.

Horse Riding in Kerry

Kerry is an ideal place to try your hand at horse riding. If you've always fancied the idea of riding through the surf on a beautiful beach or trekking leisurely along woodland paths then you have come to the right place.

Whether you are a novice or an experienced rider, a six-year-old or a sixty year old (or older, why not?) you will be matched with a horse to suit you.

Cycling in Kerry

Kerry is an ideal spot for a cycling holiday whether it's just to hire a bicycle for a day or to take part in the world famous Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle that takes place each year in July.

Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle

This very worthwhile cycle covers 112 miles of the Ring of Kerry road in one day in July every year. The starting point being Killarney. The cycle is limited to 9,000 cyclists each year for safety reasons. Avoid dispointment by registering online as early as possible on http://www.ringofkerrycycle.ie/

If you would like to take a more relaxed approach to getting around Kerry by bike then you can hire a bicycle in Killarney and most of the towns on the Ring.

Here are some easy cycle routes, we plan to add more to this list very soon.

Killarney National Park - Killarney to Muckross

From the centre of Killarney there is a cycle path out the Muckross Road for about three km. The path then turns in toward the lakes and takes various loops around Muckross House and the lakes. Possibly at over 20km of loops.

Killarney National Park - The Fossa Way

From the entrance to the National Park opposite Killarney Cathedral there is a path running within the park but parallel to the Killorglin road towards the village of Fossa. This is a lovely route passing the Killarney Golf & Fishing Club. A new pathway along the Deenagh River, meets up with the Fossa Way and offers an alternative route back to Killarney.
