Welcome to Beaufort Village

The Beaufort area centres on the pretty little village of Beaufort but has a wide hinterland encompassing the MacGillycuddy Reeks mountain range with Carrauntoohil - Ireland's highest mountain.

The Gap of Dunloe

The Gap of Dunloe is a narrow mountain pass forged between the MacGillycuddy Reeks and Purple Mountain by glacial flows.

The Black Valley

The Black Valley is a place of outstanding natural beauty and a hiker's paradise.

The Black Valley

The Black Valley is accessed via The Gap of Dunloe. It was the last place in Ireland to be connected to the national electric grid, in 1976!

The Gap of Dunloe

The Gap of Dunloe is a magical mountain pass, 6 miles (10Km) long. You can hire a pony & trap or ponies to make the journey from Kate Kearney's Cottage.

Purple Mountain

Purple Mountain includes three main peaks: Purple, Tomies and Shehy: bounded to the west by the Gap of Dunloe, which separates it from The Macgillycuddy Reeks:
